Your Softball video (highlights/skills)
A softball video that works is metric-driven, not just highlights: radar and clock on screen so the coach can evaluate you without seeing you live.
For a European, the video replaces the in-person visit: the coach will rarely see you live, so she must be able to evaluate you from the screen alone. That's why it's a metric-driven skills video, not a montage of pretty plays.
Recommended structure:
- Opening slate: name, grad year, position(s), club/national team, height, verified metrics (velo, exit velo, pop time, home-to-first), GPA and email.
- Position skills, from the correct angle: pitchers — full windup from behind the plate + side, multiple pitch types with radar reading visible; catchers — framing, blocking and throw-downs with pop time on screen; infield/outfield — fielding to throws showing footwork and arm; hitters — tee/front-toss + live at-bats with exit velo.
- Running: home-to-first or 60-yard with a clock on screen.
- Raw, unedited game clips at the end for real context.
Length 3-5 minutes, uploaded unlisted on YouTube and linked in your profile. Golden rule: if the coach can't read a radar or a clock on screen, the number doesn't count. Pair each metric with where and when it was measured.
