Your realistic Tennis list (reach / target / safe)

Cross your UTR with each division's benchmark and build a 15-25 school list, prioritizing D2/NAIA/JUCO.

Build the list by crossing your UTR with each division's level. A healthy list has 15–25 schools across three buckets:

  • Reach: teams whose roster UTR sits 0.5–1 point above yours. Aim high, but few.
  • Target: teams where you fit mid-lineup (your UTR ≈ their #3–5 player). The bulk goes here.
  • Safe: teams where you'd be top of the lineup; they secure a spot and likely better aid.

Quick reference (UTR, approximate): top D1 men ~12.5–14+ / women ~10.5–13+; lower D1–D2/NAIA top ~11.5+ (m) / ~8.5–10 (w); lower D2 ~9.5–11. Women's thresholds are less firmly established — check with your source.

For a European, prioritize D2, NAIA and JUCO: more accessible, funded paths where a strong ITF/UTR stands out more. Remember the budget reality: internationals cost more (out-of-state tuition, visa, no federal aid), so some coaches favor domestic players unless you clearly outrank them on UTR/ITF. A high UTR is what breaks that barrier. JUCO is also a 2-year ramp toward D1/D2. Add a couple of reaches, fill the middle with targets, and lock in several funded safe schools.
