Your realistic Swimming list (reach / target / safe)

Cross your projected SCY times with each division's benchmark and build a 15-25 school list, prioritising D2/NAIA/JUCO.

Build the list by crossing your projected SCY times (converted from LCM/SCM, or better still swum in yards) with each division's benchmark. Look at your strongest event and be honest about the curve: coaches slightly discount foreign times because LCM→SCY projection is imperfect.

How to bucket each school by your event (e.g. men's 50 free):

BucketRule
Reachthe program's benchmark is ~0.5-1.0 s faster than your time
Targetyour time falls inside the program's range
Safeyour time is faster than the program's range

Reference (M 50 free SCY): power D1 ≤~19.9; D1/D2-D3 ~20.5-21.4; low D2-D3/NAIA ~21.7-23.9. Women slower at every level.

Build 15-25 schools: ~5 reach, ~10-12 target, ~5 safe. For a European, prioritise D2, NAIA and JUCO as realistic paths: equivalency with less time pressure, academic-aid stacking, and at JUCO you can build SCY times before transferring to a 4-year program (de-risking the conversion). Keep D1 for events where you're genuinely in range.

Also filter by academic fit, location/pool climate, team size and real funded spots (verify per program). Start your Eligibility Center registration early.
